A DRIVER and his passenger are recovering from shock after an item about the size of a breeze block fell on their car as they travelled on a 70mph trunk road.
Police said the white Audi A1 had been travelling westbound on the A64 near York, at about 5pm on Sunday, when the unidentified item shattered the windscreen as they passed under the Naburn flyover.
A spokesman said the glass was not penetrated, and it remained unclear whether the item was part of the bridge or not.
The driver and passenger were uninjured, but the spokesman said the incident could have been fatal.
