A GROUP of motorcyclists have raised more than £4,500 to send a ten-year-old girl with cancer on a dream trip to Disneyland.

Millie Gallant, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer, on June 2 this year. Fundraising is ongoing to send her on a dream trip to Disneyland Florida.

Motorcyclist David Atkin, from Durham, recently organised a motorcycle rally of more than 300 bikers, which set off from the A19 at Hartlepool. The trip finished in a large lay-by on the A59 near Harrogate.

The rally then escorted Millie in a pink Rolls Royce to the Sun Inn at Norwood, near Harrogate, where a fundraising auction and raffle took place.

Mr Atkin said their fundraising target was £1,000, but they raised more than four times that amount.

Elaine Smith, from Darlington, who helped organise the event, said: “It was amazing to see what people were willing to donate to the raffle.

“We had one chap who bought £100 of raffle tickets and then gave another £100 donation. He won quite a few prizes so he then sold them on eBay to raise even more money for Millie.

“Another man contacted us and asked if he could ride over from Manchester and just meet us in the pub. His daughter had been very poorly when she was a youngster and he just wanted to do his bit; bikers are a big-hearted bunch.”

Millie is undergoing chemotherapy and has just undergone an operation to have a kidney removed. She is said to be doing well.

“We just wanted to do the best we could for Millie, like any child in that situation,” said Mrs Smith.

“We didn’t know her when we started this – we just knew she was a little girl in a plight - but she’s a proper little trooper.”
