A SWEET shop stocked with toe-curling surprises such as chewy mealworms, crispy locusts and tooth-crunching crickets has been created for Halloween.

York Dungeon will open it Witchety Grub Tuck Shop on Saturday (October 25) in time for half-term and Halloween.

Visitors to the unsavoury sweet shop will be greeted by the Master of Tricks, who will be supplying some lucky visitors with some tasty treats, while others less lucky may find themselves chomping on creepy crawlies.

When he’s not trying to spread Halloween mischief, the Master of Tricks promises to regale visitors with gripping storytelling, scary surprises and a pumpkin load of tricks and treats.

In the dungeon there will be a host of twisted characters, such as the sinister barman of the Golden Fleece Pub and the divine soothsayer, along with some of history’s most notorious villains and rogues.

Helen Douglas, general manager at The York Dungeon, said: “Everyone associates the tuck shop with school days and the treats you’d buy as a child but this is definitely not one for youngsters – especially if you find getting them to eat their greens a challenge.

“The Master of Tricks has spent a lot of time in the kitchen cooking up some sickening snacks. Visitors are going to need nerves of steel when the Master of Tricks approaches them with the Witchety Grub Tuck Shop.”
