A NORTH Yorkshire village hall has secured a £50,000 funding boost.

Scotton, near Knaresborough, received the grant from the Biffa Award to undertake necessary insulation work.

Built in 1977, the project includes the installation of a new roof, double glazed internal doors and redecoration.

The facility caters for the local church, schools plus exercise and dance groups but recent users have complained about uncomfortable summer and winter temperatures in the hall, leading to several cancellations.

Hall manager Stephen Barnes hopes the project will encourage further usage.

He said: “The newly insulated roof, made possible thanks to the Biffa Award, will make the hall more pleasant for all users."

Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that provides grants to UK community and environmental projects through landfill tax credits.

Programme manager Gillian French said: “The project will make the space much more welcoming for the local community and we are pleased to support it."

A celebration tea takes place on October 12 between 2pm and 4pm.
