THE region’s tourist capital is also the most expensive place in the North for couples planning a weekend break, according to TripAdvisor.
York ranks sixth nationwide, and top among northern English cities, in a survey of the priciest locations to enjoy two days away according to the travel website.
The survey takes into account the typical costs for a couple to have a night out - including a pre-meal cocktail at a four star hotel, a meal out, taxis, and an overnight stay for two in a four star hotel in August.
Total costs in York would be £237.77, lifting it from 11th most expensive last year to sixth this year.
The dearest place in the UK was Edinburgh with costs of £331.28, followed by Cambridge, London, Oxford and Bath.
