Police have named a man who was found with stab wounds in a car as inquiries continue into his death.

The dead man has been named as 44-year-old Mark Leslie John Berney from Knaresborough.

Mr Berney was found at 9.30pm on Sunday (August 3) in a vehicle which was parked on the B6165 at Whipley Bank, at Ripley, near Ripon. Police and ambulance temas had been called to a house in the area. the road was cordoned off until noon on Monday as police carried out investigations.

Police are continuing to question a 40-year-old man from Harrogate on suspicion of murder after he handed himself into a police station in Greater Manchester at 2.40am on Monday.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, Head of the Major Crime Unit, said: β€œAt this time we are not looking for another person or anticipate further arrests in connection with the case.”

They are appealing for information in connection with the investigation to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for the Major Crime Unit.
