A TEENAGER who lost her brother in a car crash has been honoured after spending the past four years campaigning to warn young people that driving safely is a matter of life or death.

Tiffany Rollins, 19, from Whitby was devastated when her 18-year-old brother Dan died in a collision near Ugthorpe in 2013. His Seat Arosa veered onto the wrong side of the road at speed and hit an oncoming vehicle.

Since 2014, Tiffany has been working with officers from the emergency services to deliver road safety messages to 17 to 21-year-olds. Now her work has been honoured with a Chief Constable’s Commendation from North Yorkshire Police.

She said: “I help to push road safety to other young adults as I aim to prevent more road traffic collisions. Most people think these things won’t happen to them and that they’re invincible, in fact it can happen to anyone. I was shocked but highly honoured to have been awarded the commendation.”

Temporary Chief Constable Lisa Winward presented the award, she said: “Tiffany is a passionate road safety advocate. She has turned the tragic loss of her brother into a positive way to inspire young adults to drive safely and recognise that actions have consequences. She is an inspiration to her generation.”
