A MAN was airlifted to hospital following a large-scale rescue operation involving four RNLI lifeboats.
Volunteer crews from Scarborough and Whitby rescued a man from the water a few miles north of Scarborough before airlifting him to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Reports of a casualty in the water came in just before noon and inshore and all-weather lifeboats sped to a point close to shore, north of Hayburn Wyke.
The man was recovered from the water before being winched aboard the coastguard rescue helicopter, which airlifted him to hospital.
John Senior, lifeboat operations manager, said: “The RNLI crews and coastguard helicopter responded quickly and worked together to ensure the casualty was transferred to hospital as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
