A WOMAN driver has been killed in a collision.

The accident happened on Saturday at 3.15pm at Seamer, near Scarborough.

The location was near Chew Lane between the A64 and the B1261.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for any witnesses in the area at the time to contact them.

The driver was confirmed dead at the scene but police say there was a delay in releasing the information to allow officers time to trace and inform family members.

She was 63 and from the local area.

The woman was driving a light coloured Kia Picanto which was in collision with a blue Citroen C5 travelling in the opposite direction towards Staxton.

The Citroen driver, who is 63 and from the East Riding of Yorkshire, was taken by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment for abdominal injuries. He has now been discharged from hospital.

The road was closed for nearly six hours as police carried out a detailed investigation into the collision so a report can be prepared for the coroner.

The road re-opened just after 9pm.
