COASTGUARD and police officers were called to rescue a person from the sea off Whitby.
Whitby Coastguard Team were called at the request of North Yorkshire Police to reports of somebody in the water near the south end of Church Street just after 8pm on Monday night.
The Whitby RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched to help the person who had already been thrown a life-ring by a member of the public.
Using water rescue equipment, a Coastguard officer attached to a line waded out to stabilise the casualty and bring them back to shore.
The casualty was then helped up to the pavement to receive ongoing care before an ambulance arrived.
