FIREFIGHTERS rescued a man from a balcony after fire broke out in a second floor flat.
Crews from Whitby, Lythe, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough were called to the scene of the fire at a block of flats on Belle Vue Terrace in Whitby just before 11pm on Thursday.
Firefighters used ladders to rescue the occupant of the second floor premises from his balcony.
Residents suffering smoke inhalation in flats immediately above and below the fire were also rescued.
Aaran Bosansko said on Twitter: "I've just been allowed back in my flat next door. They worked fast. The whole Terrace could've gone up in flames."
Firefighters extinguished the fire using six breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one main jet, ladders, a door breaker and hooligan tool.
