FIRE CREWS climbed into a small manhole to rescue a dog after it fell into a tunnel and became trapped.
The spaniel, Baushan, had dropped 10ft into the tiny space through a broken manhole cover in countryside near Scarborough on Saturday and was unable to get back out until a team from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service turned up to retrieve the pet.
One crew member climbed down into the claustrophobic space and managed to grab the dog, which was then winched back to safety.
The dog was luckily uninjured in its escapade.
After the rescue North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service tweeted a picture of the dog shaking itself dry after its ordeal, stating: “Back on firm ground!! A bit wet but uninjured by his ordeal!!”
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue services said the rescue had gone smoothly. “Our crews went out and climbed down the ladder that was there.
"They got the dog wrapped up in a sheet and used a line rescue to get the dog out again.”
