A WALKING holiday in Whitby helped rekindle an award-winning author’s love for the town – so much so she used it to inspire the eighth book in her series of murder mysteries.

Frances Brody is the author of the acclaimed Kate Shackleton series which are set in Yorkshire in the 1920s.

Ms Brody said: “One of the great pleasures for me is visiting the locations. This was especially true for book number eight, Death at the Seaside. I had forgotten how much I loved Whitby until about three years ago when I was on a walking holiday based at Sneaton Castle.

“Whitby is unique, a thriving town with the sea at its feet and the wild moors behind. What’s more, there’s something in the air that for decades, centuries even, has set authors’ fingers twitching.

“Once I had decided on Whitby as my setting, I returned, wandered, explored, and thought about what might happen in the story.”

Kate Shackleton is a First World War widow turned sleuth who goes on holiday to Robin Hood’s Bay and uncovers a mystery.

The book will be published on October 6 and the following day Ms Brody will launch the title at The Whitby Bookshop at 5pm.
