A FARM shop and cafe is steaming ahead after being nominated for two business awards.

Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Cafe, based in Pickering, has created a miniature railway with a 600m track and tiny Victorian station which is set to open in early July.

Owners Mandy and Karl Avison and daughter Chloe have selected from hundred of shortlisted entrants to be named regional finalist in the Best of British award in the Red Ribbon Awards, which champions independent businesses.

And 21-year-old café supervisor Chloe – who hit the headlines when she used her gap year to set up a pop-up vintage afternoon tea business at the café in 2013 – has been nominated in the ‘One to Watch’ category.

The new railway will be themed around the farm’s crops - in summer, there will be the Strawberry Express, in spring, the Asparagus or Rhubarb Express and in autumn, the Pumpkin Express.

Mrs Avison said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been nominated for these two awards – particularly as they recognise the thing most precious to us: our family.

“With these awards and the miniature railway in the pipeline it’s certainly going to be an exciting year for our whole team.”
