TWO living legends of English football are heading to the region to provide an insight into one of the biggest days of sporting history.

Two members of England’s World Cup winning squad of 1966 will be at Scarborough Spa to mark 50 years since their famous triumph.

Hat trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst and goalkeeping ace Gordon Banks visit on May 6 to reminisce about that great day.

Both played key roles in the famous 4-2 victory over West Germany with Sir Geoff securing a unique place in the history of football when he became the first and still the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final.

Four years later, in Mexico Gordon spectacularly kept out Pele’s header in the clash with Brazil, an effort which was dubbed the “Save of the Century.”

Gordon also represented Scarborough FC, making one appearance for the club during the Anglo-Italian tournament, in 1976, against Monza.

Tickets go on sale on February 19, priced at £30 from the Spa’s box office on 01723-821888 and via scarboroughspa.co.uk
