THE seaside town of Whitby was virtually cut off last night after heavy rain caused flash flooding.
All major routes in and out of the town were affected, including the main A171, both from the south and the north west, the A169 from Sleights, and the A174 from Sandsend.
This morning police say road closures remain in place on the A174 between Sandsend and Whitby - and on the B1410 between Ruswarp and Eskdale.
