ELBOW lead singer Guy Garvey has announced he is to play a special gig at Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire next year.

The gig, on June 24, near Pickering, is one of two two special dates that are part of Forest Live, the Forestry Commission’s summer concert series.

Garvey recently released his debut solo album, ‘Courting the Squall’, which included the single ‘Angela’s Eyes’.

The songwriting reflects his past work at times, the big themes of love and friendship and the lure of his Northern homeland.

The critically acclaimed album perfectly illustrates his standing as one of the UK’s most recognised and celebrated musicians and lyricists.

Forest Live is an independent programme organised by the Forestry Commission to bring forests to new audiences.

Income generated from ticket sales is spent on protecting, improving and expanding England’s forests and woodlands and increasing their value to people and wildlife.

Over Forest Live’s 15 years history, money raised has contributed to a wide range of projects, from wildlife conservation to making improvements for visitors. With everything required for a great night out, including full catering and bar facilities, the gigs are renowned for their relaxed atmosphere.

Garvey said: “I have played Forest Live once before with Elbow so I am really delighted to be performing again in these beautiful locations. It should be a magical experience on a summer’s evening in a forest.”

  • Tickets are £36 (plus £4.10 booking fee) and are available from 9am on Friday, December 11 from the Forestry Commission box office  on 03000 680400 or online at forestry.gov.uk/music Info: forestry.gov.uk/music Info: guygarvey.com
