A HOSPITAL site in North Yorkshire now has new owners.

The Whitby Hospital site has been acquired by NHS Property Services from York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

They will now take on the responsibility of property landlord. Community and out-of-hours services will continue to be provided by the York trust and Primecare until the start date of the new provider of these services is confirmed

Property manager John Watson said: “For the past few months, local NHS clinicians and managers have been working closely with us to look at how healthcare is currently provided and to carefully plan how best to run services at Whitby Hospital.

“We look forward to continuing working closely with NHS colleagues to shape the future of Whitby Hospital, which is clearly a valuable asset to the local community.”

The chief operating officer for the Hambleton, Richmond and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group, Debbie Newton, said the move was a “step in the right direction” for the future of healthcare in the area.

She added: “We must emphasise that staff and patients will see no changes to services, as it is just the ownership of the hospital site which has changed.”
