FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a moors blaze at Ugthorpe, near Whitby, which measured some 10m by 200m. Appliances from Lythe and Whitby were alerted soon after 12.30pm today (March 30) and were later joined by supporting crews from other stations in the area. They used five hose reel jets to fight the flames and by 3.35pm the fire had been extinguished although crews remained at the scene, damping down and checking for hotspots.
