A WADDLING group of holidaymakers’ favourites are returning to their rightful home tomorrow (Wednesday March 11).

The penguin colony from Scarborough’s Sea Life Centre are being moved back into their newly-refurbished home.

The 12 Humboldt penguins have been wintering in temporary quarters in Great Yarmouth since before Christmas while the £300,000 revamp has been taking place.

Re-christened Penguin Island, it has been landscaped, had a waterfall added and now features a novel “walkthrough” trail for visitors.

Staff will also be welcoming six new additions to the colony, six youngsters which joined them in their winter digs all the way from Belgium.

Displays supervisor Lyndsey Crawford said: “We’ve all missed our penguins. They’re such characters it’s impossible not to get attached to them, and I know we’re all going to get equally attached to the new arrivals from our sister centre in Blankenberge, Belgium.”
