WORK to build a £14m water park at a seaside resort is set to start six years after developers postponed the project.

The firm behind North Bay park, at Scarborough, said it hoped the attraction, which is expected to attract about 500,000 visitors a year, would open at Easter next year.

The 13-hectare water park, which was granted planning consent in 2012, will include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water rides, flumes and a spa.

Developers Benchmark Leisure, which revealed the plan in ten years ago, halted the project due to the economic downturn and relaunched it after Scarborough Borough Council agreed to loan it £9m in 2013.
