AT least one person has been seriously injured in a multiple pile-up in North Yorkshire.
The collision, which involved four vehicles, occurred on the road between Teesside and Whitby, near Scaling Dam, around 5.20pm.
It happened just past the Lythe turn-off.
The man was trapped in the car and fire crews had to cut the roof off the vehicle to free him.
"Police, ambulance and fire crews were alerted to the scene with reports that one of the vehicles was on fire," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.
"Paramedics treated several casualties from the vehicles, with one man taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.
"The stretch of road remains closed while police carry out a detailed examination of the collision scene and for the vehicles to be recovered.
"Local diversions will remain in place until further notice."
