ALL things Victorian, theatrical and macabre descended on Whitby at the weekend, for its bi-annual goth weekend.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Whitby Goth Weekend, which every year attracts hoards of people dressed in theatrical and dramatic dress, as well as photographers keen to document the spectacle of the event.
The festival began in 1994 when Jo Hampshire organised a meeting of about 40 penpals who met via NME magazine.
Now the resort, which featured in Bram Stoker’s Dracular, attracts people dressed in flamboyant costume from across the UK, and generates an estimated £1m in annual income for the town.
