A NATIONAL Trust property is showcasing the beauty of nature in a new exhibition.

Rievaulx Terrace, near Helmsley, is hosting Inspired by Nature, a collection of work by chainsaw artist Simon Archer.

There will be 20 sculptures on display at Rievaulx Terrace that have been inspired by the simplicity and beauty of the natural world, and visitors are invited to follow the winding woodland paths to discover imaginative wood carved sculptures.

The sculptures include owls hiding in the nook of a tree, giant redwood pine cones, a bursting seed pod and a descending sycamore seed.

Mr Archer uses traditional wood carving tools alongside chainsaws to create unique artworks from dead or fallen wood.

He said: “My influences come from nature, whether I’m carving a tiny animal pendant or chainsaw carving a large tree butt into a sculpture or a seat.” For more information visit nationaltrust.org.uk/rievaulx.
