ONE hundred soldiers are on the march from one side of the country to the other, to raise money for charity.

The soldiers from 6 Regiment the Royal Logistic Corps based at Dishforth Airfield, near Thirsk, set off yesterday to walk the 84 mile length of Hadrian’s Wall to put their endurance to the test and raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund. They set off from Bowness-on-Solway and finish in Gateshead on March22.

Commanding officer Lt Col Tim Crossland said: “The aim of this tough challenge is to develop physical endurance and leadership in the junior soldiers whilst at the same time engaging with the community and raising money for a worthy cause. The Army Benevolent Fund does great work with soldiers; we have strong links with the charity and the support we receive from our local community is always humbling."

Organiser Sergeant Chris Mitchell added: “During this busy period of operational deployments and overseas training, the walk gives us an opportunity to get together as a squadron and work towards supporting the Army Benevolent Fund."
