YOUNGSTERS are being encouraged to volunteer at an activity centre as it prepares for this year’s outdoor events.
Carlton Lodge Activity Centre, in Carlton Miniott, Thirsk, is recruiting people aged 14 to 25 in a bid to get them volunteering in their community.
They aim to make the lodge ready for the 6,000 plus young people expected to visit in 2018.
George Plant, the chief instructor at Carlton Lodge, wants volunteers to give the Bunkhouse a “facelift”, erect outdoor shelters and carry out conservation work.
Sally Clifford, North Yorkshire Youth’s Hambleton volunteer co-ordinator, said: “I am all about community action by our young people and this day from Carlton Lodge is giving them a real opportunity to have a sense of achievement and to see that there are many sides to volunteering.”
The centre offers a range of activities including water sports, a zip wire and climbing wall.
The recruitment day will take place this Saturday, and anybody who is interested should contact Ms Clifford on 01845 522145 or email sally@nyy.org.uk
