A HOSPITAL has paid tribute to a "caring" young doctor with a "brilliant future ahead of him" who was killed in a motorcycle crash.

Doctor Alex Boorman, 27, from Thirsk, was riding his motorbike on the A19 near Easingwold Bypass at about 7.30pm last Thursday when he was killed in a crash with a Vauxhall Viva.

James Stanley, clinical director for Trauma and Orthopaedics at York Hospital, said he and colleagues in the department were devastated by the loss.

He said: “Many staff at the hospital have been shocked and saddened by this tragic loss. Dr Boorman was a very well-respected and popular member of staff with an exceptional bedside manner.

“He was hard-working, bright, supportive to his team members, and a caring doctor with a brilliant future ahead of him. Our thoughts are with family and his loved ones.”

A 22-year-old driver of a Vauxhall was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug-driving, and has since been released under investigation by North Yorkshire Police.

Dr Boorman’s partner, Alex Bellard, paid tribute to “the most wonderful human being I have ever met”.

She wrote on Facebook: “My world is broken.

“He made my life complete and I can’t even comprehend a future without him. I will always, always love you AJ Boorman.”

Two passengers also in the Vauxhall included another 22-year-old man who was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, and a 17-year-old woman who was driven by ambulance to York Hospital. North Yorkshire Police said both had serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Dr Boorman, who trained at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, also played rugby for Richmondshire RUFC seconds.

The police investigation into the crash continues, and officers want to speak to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision.
