A GUN club has raised £1,100 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with a charity shoot.

Sutton and Thirlby Gun Club, at Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe near Thirsk, held a charity clay pigeon shoot in September, along with a fundraising raffle.

On Friday members were able to present the money to a representative of the air ambulance during the club's end-of-season meal at The Carpenters Arms in nearby Felixkirk.

Club secretary Sam Dodds said: “Linda Stead, from the air ambulance, gave us a talk about the air ambulance’s work and how much it needs to stay in the air. It costs £1,200 a day and more than £2m a year - we were £100 short of keeping the air ambulance in the air for a day!

"It’s such a good cause.”

During the celebration meal, trophies were also awarded to those who had secured the best results in adult and junior categories.

Sam also thanked local businesses for donating prizes to the raffle.

“A lot of businesses in Northallerton and Thirsk donated and we had some good prizes this year," she said.

"The raffle completely sold out in an hour and a half.”

The group will next meet in spring, with an annual meeting at The Carpenters Arms on Monday, March 5 and a pre-season shoot on Sunday, March 18, when the group will be encouraging new potential members to try the sport and win a prize.
