TWO pub chefs in the region have been nominated for a prestigious national award by their local MP.

Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, has nominated Anne-Marie Sargent of The Carlton Inn at Carlton Husthwaite and Oliver Farrar of the Durham Ox in Crayke for the 2017/18 Young Parliamentary Pub Chef of the Year award.

Anne Marie said she was “delighted” to be nominated, adding: “We all work really hard to offer good quality, locally-sourced food of a consistently high standard, providing excellent value for money to our customers.”

Mr Farrar said it was a “real honour” to receive the nomination due to the quality of chefs in the area.

He added: “It’s particularly special as this is the kitchen where it all started for me at the age of 15 when I joined the team as an apprentice.

“Having worked away, it was amazing to come back to Yorkshire and my roots back in January this year.’

Mr Hollinrake said the pair were regarded as two of the best chefs in his constituency.

“They both not only create dishes possessing creativity and flair but use fresh, local produce from the surrounding area to produce meals which set them apart from the many other amazing chefs in Thirsk and Malton,” said Mr Hollinrake.

The award will be presented in February at the House of Commons.
