TWO students are upping the ante on their musical ambitions as they prepare to launch as an indie vocal act.

The Drivers are made up of 17-year-olds Aidan Tulloch and Luke Coupland of Thirsk School and Sixth Form College.

The teenagers have performed at festivals around the UK as well as taking their violin and guitar to busk around Europe.

However, they are now launching as an indie/alternative band and are adding lyrics to their repertoire for the first time.

With the support of York-based charity NYMAZ, the teenagers will performing new songs in front of a specially-selected audience at Rural Arts on November 8 before uploading the footage online.

Aidan, who is an award-winning composer with BBC credits, said: “I have been playing violin since I was eight but my passion for music goes back long before that.

“I have been inspired primarily by indie and rock music but there is some instrumental and pop music that has shaped our band.”

Luke has a decade of guitar experience and found inspiration from music in post-industrial Prague.
