OLDER residents were encouraged to partake in friendly rivalry as a special event aimed to bring the community together.

‘Older People’s Day’ was celebrated in Easingwold on Sunday, as the Galtres Centre hosted low intensity sports such as Boccia and New Age Curling.

It brought together the various Primetime groups from across the district – who aim to overcome loneliness in rural areas.

Since the launch three years ago, five communities across Hambleton run their own sessions supported by the council and North Yorkshire Sport.

Joe McKechnie, inclusive sport officer, said: “It was great to support ‘Older People’s Day’ and give participants the chance to meet up with old and new acquaintances and enjoy some friendly competition."
