THIRSK and Sowerby Harriers celebrated their 40th Anniversary recently.
The celebrations started with a park run at Fountains Abbey, and in the evening a Gala Dinner Dance at Thirsk Racecourse's Hambleton Suite.
The club was formed four decades ago by Norman Smith, Cyril Sherwood and Les Stuart and continues to thrive.
The evening started with a video message from Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, who took part in several wheelchair races in the Thirsk 10, when she was in training for the Olympics, achieving a personal best on the course.
A magician entertained before and during the meal.
The guest speaker was Julian Norton, the Yorkshire Vet, a former member of the club.
Preceding Julian's speech, Rob Burn, club chairman, gave an entertaining speech followed by Alan Wikeley outlining some of the club's history.
