FEMALE personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal air Force went back to school to bust some myths about the role of women in the forces.

The three colleagues visited Thirsk School to speak to sixth form students about the kind of work they do and the roles they play in the forces. They’re part of a new group, the Armed Forces Diversity Engagement Team which has been set up to raise awareness of the armed forces current approach and their determination to engage with all sectors of society and “myth bust” stereotypical perceptions of the three military groups.

The presentation was part of a celebration of Red, White and Blue Day which is a national fundraising campaign for schools. This year it celebrates the role of women in the forces and marks the centenaries of the Women’s Royal Naval Services and the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.

The official Red, White and Blue Day is on Friday October 6 with children encouraged to come to school dressed in the colours and donate £1 in support of service families. So far more than 750,000 pupils have bee in involved raising over £300,000 since the celebration was launched in 2012.
