BUDDING film-makers at a North Yorkshire primary school are working on their latest movie – on the property sector.

Last year, developer Mulberry Homes Yorkshire donated three mini iPads to Sowerby Community Primary School, near Thirsk.

Over the last school year, the children – through an after-school video club – have been learning how to use the iPads to make films and animations.

They have also been looking at careers so as part of that, a group of year six children recently visited Mulberry’s nearby development, known as the Oaks, at Sowerby Gateway.

They interviewed Mulberry's sales manager Melanie Powls and Richard Connor, senior site manager for Moody Construction, who are building the homes and filmed a show home and another still under construction.

Melanie said: “The children were very well prepared and asked some really good questions; it felt like being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman.

“It was great to see the iPads being put to such great use and we are now looking forward to seeing the final cut.”

John Cole of Moody Construction said: “It was great to watch the children in action and very pleasing that they found the construction industry so interesting.

“If they don’t make it as film-makers, hopefully they will become the architects and builders of the future.”

Head teacher Keeley Ungerechts added: “The donation of the iPads was very gratefully received and the children have enjoyed using them to make films.

“Being able to tie this in to with a subject we have been looking at, which is careers, is fantastic and we would like to thank Mulberry and Moody Construction for making this happen.”

Bradley Galloway, 11, said: “It was really interesting finding out what goes in to building the homes - especially as I now live in one."
