KILBURN Feast which dates back hundreds of years is being held this weekend with the appointment of the villages own Lord Mayor.

The village, in the shadow of the North York Moor's famous White Horse, embarks on a weekend of events with traditional games, live music with Thirsk brass band , a crockery smash, seven mile road race, duck races and many other games and attractions.

It's held from Saturday July 8 with the main events on Sunday. This includes the proclamation of the Lord Mayor who tours the village in top hat and sash of office. proclaiming his authority, he inflicts small fines on householders and visitors alike for any misdemeanour, real or invented.

All funds raised go to support local charities.

This year the village is hoping to raise even more than the record £5,000 raised last year, the Feast will be supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Friarage Hospital’s MRI scanner appeal, Thirsk Rotary, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, St. Mary’s Church in Kilburn and the Kilburn Institute, which is in need of major restoration.
