A YOUTH charity leader received a surprise treat to mark 15-years’ service to youngsters across the region.

David Sharp, of Brompton on Swale, is chief executive of the North Yorkshire Youth charity and oversees the running of youth clubs across the area.

The organisation operates the Carlton Lodge Activity Centre at Thirsk and during a recent session, the leader of North Yorkshire County Council, Carl Les, paid a special visit armed with an anniversary cake.

Cllr Les, who is also chair of trustees, insisted that Mr Sharp took to the zip wire to collect his cake before tucking in.

The celebrations were joined by a group of young people taking part at an activity day at the Carlton Lodge centre.

In 2015 the charity won a new contract to run a dozen youth clubs from the centre and it is now used by more than 5,000 youngsters from schools and clubs across North Yorkshire.

The club runs a range of indoor and outdoor activities such as zip wires and water games to boost young people’s self-confidence, communication and teamwork skills.
