ICONIC Staffordshire pottery was the inspiration behind a workshop in Thirsk.

It took place at Rural Arts as part of the venue’s Taste of Art workshop series.

The programme covers a variety of artistic mediums and aim to give adults of all creative abilities the opportunity to develop and explore different art techniques to their own capability level and style.

The ‘Sculptures Inspired by Staffordshire Pottery’ workshop was led by Rural Arts’ Director Angela Hall and Outreach Administrator Jayne Rawlins.

Participants were given guidance in creating their own ceramic figures inspired by traditional Victorian mantelpiece ornamentation.

They created a range of figurines using traditional pottery techniques made famous by the Staffordshire potteries which were a booming industry in the 1800s.

Rural Arts have also been running Easter-themed workshops and have an upcoming session on Abstract Painting in Acrylic on April 22.

This is followed by an Earth Day Block Printing class on April 26.
