A LITTLE dog that was dumped in an appallingly neglected condition has finally been given a new chance at life.

The seven-year-old Pomeranian, known as Fred, was simply thrown over a garden fence when he was abandoned in September last year.

He was in a terrible state with an untreated skin infection which meant he had lost a lot of fur. He was also starving hungry and very frightened.

But after no-one claimed him from the pound the Blue Cross in Thirsk stepped in to restore his health and find him a loving new home.

Animal behaviour co-ordinator Rachel Myers said: “When Fred arrived with us he was very worried and had to be carried into the building.

"He was really scrawny and there was no fur on his tummy or legs and the only bit of coat he had was really matted."

But with plenty of TLC from the Blue Cross team, regular medication and special baths he started to make a recovery and happily went to live with Andrew and Yvonne Hildred near Ganthorpe.

And six months later his fur has all grown back and now even needs monthly visits to the groomers to keep it under control.

Yvonne said: “Knowing what he has been through makes him even more rewarding. When we saw the picture of the state he was in when he arrived at Blue Cross, I was heartbroken – the poor thing.”
