A LORRY driver has been arrested following a crash on the A19 in North Yorkshire on Thursday morning in which a woman died.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A19 near Easingwold.

The collision occurred at about 9.20am near the Husthwaite junction and involved a grey Toyota Avensis car and a white Scania lorry.

The driver of the Toyota, a woman from the Northallerton area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry, a 66-year-old man from the Northallerton area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. 

The A19 was closed for several hours between the Easingwold bypass and Husthwaite junction, south of Thirsk.

Police advised drivers to avoid the area while police, paramedics and fire crews attended the scene.
