A SUCCESSFUL fundraising drive led by a North Yorkshire Inn has reached its target, allowing the purchase of lifesaving equipment.

In recent months, landlords Janet and Edward Boynton have hosted several fundraising events at the Nags Head, Pickhill, to raise enough money to buy a public access defibrillator for the village.

Fundraising events included a treasure hunt rally, sweepstake and quizzes.

Local businesses Heck Foods and the Yorkshire Meatball Company kindly provided suppers which meant all proceeds raised could go towards the fund.

Now, having raised £1,700, the Nags Head has taken delivery of a defibrillator and casing and will be hosting training sessions for villagers.

Mrs Boynton said: “The appeal has struck a chord with villagers who have really rallied round.

“To have a defibrillator in the village offers some peace of mind for if the worst were to happen.

“The events have been well supported and many people who couldn’t attend made generous donations to the fund. We have had so many people interested in a training session we will be organising another one.”

The defibrillator is likely to be housed under the canopy outside the Nags Head, a nationally renowned, award-winning real ale country Inn and restaurant.
