POLICE have confirmed three arrests have been made after a 17-year-old girl was found collapsed in a market town in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The force confirmed on Friday that the girl remains in a critical condition in hospital after she was found in the cobbled square outside The George Hotel in Easingwold, North Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service had been alerted to a report at 4am on Saturday, February 12 that a woman had collapsed in the North Yorkshire town.

The Northern Echo understands the girl was found alone and mystery surrounds how she got there.

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains in a critical condition.

Police have confirmed that three men were arrested in relation to the incident, on suspicion of supplying drugs.

Officers arrested two 17-year-olds and one 20-year-old.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “One of the 17-year-old men has been released without charge; the other two remain on police bail while investigations continue.”

Detectives are now trying to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are conducting enquiries in the area.

A spokesperson for The George Hotel said: "Our thoughts are with the family involved at this time and the young lady in particular.

"The incident happened in the Market Place and didn't involve any of our guests or customers, but we are helping police as best we can with enquiries."

Local MP Kevin Hollinrake said: "It must be a very difficult time for the family. These things come totally out of the blue.

"Hopefully things will work out and she will recover as soon as possible." 

North Yorkshire Police are trying to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are conducting enquiries in the area.
