A SCOUT group is sending out an SOS – Support Our Scouts – message in a bid to recruit new volunteers and fund a refurbishment of their headquarters.

The 1st Thirsk Scout Group, which meets on Masonic Lane, is appealing for more adult volunteers to supervise sessions and is fundraising to revamp its meeting hall.

Fundraising activities such as supermarket bag packs and a stall at Thirsk Market on April 1 are in the pipeline and the group is also in need of more adult volunteers.

The group consists of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts spanning ages from six to 14-years-old.

It welcomes boys and girls and the Cubs meet on Tuesday, the Beavers on Wednesday, and the eldest group, the Scouts, meet on Thursdays.

A group spokeswoman said: “There are a number or roles that adults can take within 1st Thirsk Scouts and whilst no role requires a massive amount of time, they are all hugely vital.”

If you can help, visit the group on facebook, or contact Alys Allardyce, District Commissioner, on dc.ripon@nys.org.uk.
