A NORTH Yorkshire artist is preparing for an exhibition in his home town which starts next month.

Andrew Dalton, based in Thirsk, where he also has his own print workshop, will be exhibiting his collection of black and white pieces at The Courthouse Gallery at Rural Arts, in the town.

Mr Dalton uses all black and white in print, painting and drawing, using tonal graduations to depict nature and landscapes of North Yorkshire.

The exhibition, starting on February 6 to 17, features recent woodcuts, monoprints, and etchings inspired by the landscapes and fauna of North Yorkshire.

He said: "Since 2010 I have been researching new approaches to my print practice, exploring relief monoprint techniques using vinyl lino, acrylic, acetate and other surfaces. This process is very flexible and composite images can be created quickly, retaining a sense of immediacy whilst articulating the medium."

On Saturday, February 25, Mr Dalton is holding a printmaking workshop, also at Rural Arts.

The one-day workshop will be an introduction to the skill, using acrylic sheet and acetate surfaces in direct printmaking techniques with in and rollers.
