A CAKE designer has won the festive best dressed shop window challenge in Thirsk.

Lianne Bell Cake Design pipped Love Thy Interiors, Eufloria, Row Opticians and Crafts of Thirsk to the title and the best charity shop was judged to be Cancer Research UK.

Following the success of Thirsk in the Great British High Street competition this year, making it to the top 5 shortlist for Best Small Town in the UK, the Thirsk and District Business Association has been staging the annual competition.

Jill Miller, of Thirsk Business Association, said the contest was part of an ongoing drive to attract more visitors to the town.

She said: “Thirsk continues to strive to find new ways to enhance the visitor experience to provide residents the best offering and create a destination that leaves a positive, lasting memory for our visitors. Collaboration between different organisations within Thirsk has been the key to the success of the town in the last year, with events such as the Tour de Yorkshire Day, the promotion of Thirsk at Kings Cross Station and the Yarnbombers.”
