A GROUP of local people are attempting to enhance the green spaces in their town, inspire children, encourage wildlife and create rewarding activities for all to be involved in.

Thanks to a grant from Hambleton District Council’s small grant scheme, Easingwold Green Spaces Group has been able to buy and install a bird feeding station in a communal green space.

The local branch of Autism Plus, Easiworks, has taken on the job of replenishing the bird food.

“We have carefully considered how to include all residents of Easingwold,” said the group’s chair, Kelly Osborne.

“Over the next few months we will also be installing a log seating area, planting native wildflowers and creating a community orchard.

“The community orchard will be for all residents to share and enjoy and will also enable the community to take part in activities.

She added: “The younger generation will be encouraged to respect the local environment and will learn by taking part in activities organised by the group.

“Outdoor activities such as bird watching will encourage the older generation to enjoy gentle exercise with no cost barrier. And all our activities can also be accessed by those with disabilities – there will be no barriers.”
