A RACECOURSE where meetings have been held since 1855 is celebrating the success a series of innovative themed meetings.
Following the season finale fixture at Thirsk Racecourse, managers at the track said meetings with Star Wars, All Creatures Great And Small and Pirates this season had drawn thousands of punters, many of whom were not regular race-goers.
The events, which featured attractions such as a petting farm, pony rides, an inflatable assault course and look-a-like characters, were part of a drive by the course to attract younger race-goers, families and tourists.
A racecourse spokeswoman said: “We want the younger generation to experience racing and show that it isn’t just for the elite.”
Plans for the off-season at the track include an expansion of the weighing room, work on which will start this month.
