AN accident yesterday at around 1pm caused disruption to traffic on the A1 in North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Police described the incident as "quite serious" and said a stretch of the A1 was closed, with a diversion in place via the A168, until 5.20pm.
The Great North Air Ambulance has been at the scene of the accident, near the Thirsk turnoff (junction49).
The accident initially caused delays on the A1 northbound, with one motorist describing the road as "gridlocked".
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said :"There was considerable disruption in the short term.
"Although it was serious in terms of disruption for other motorists, no one had any life-threatening injuries."
