A CAR has crashed into the living room of a house in Thirsk.

The incident occurred on the busy Stammergate section of the A61, near the town centre, at around 12.05pm today.

A woman, aged in her early 20s, who was in the black VW Golf when it crashed, was given medical attention for an arm injury.

The homeowner, who had been in the kitchen at the rear of the terraced property, said the car had "bounced" back after the impact and come to rest outside the house.

"She told officers that she heard a bang and discovered the car in the living room," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.

"A 100-metre cordon has been placed on the stretch of road and footpath while the recovery operation is completed and to allow a structural assessment of the damaged house."
