A CHARITY dedicated to helping communities find practical solutions to the challenges they face has teamed up with an activity centre to improve jobseekers' work prospects.

Leaders of North Yorkshire Youth, based at Carlton Lodge Activity Centre near Thirsk, said their work with Groundwork to provide events that support the charity’s aims demonstrated the Big Society in action.

The activities, which include dry stone walling wall under the instruction of a master dry stone waller, form the first week of Groundwork's National Citizenship service course.

Groundwork’s initiatives aim at bringing out the best in young people by helping them to improve their local area, getting people back into work by creating green jobs and building strong communities by improving green space.

The charity also aims to help people into work through training and practical experience.

The activity centre's chief executive, David Sharp, said the collaboration represented the faith the charity had in North Yorkshire Youth and the activity centre.
