A MOTORCYCLIST is in a serious condition in hospital after a collision with a car in North Yorkshire.

The smash happened at 5.30pm on November 11 on the A61 near Thirsk, between the junction to Sandhutton village and Carlton Lodge.

A motorcyclist riding a blue Yamaha motorcycle from the direction of Busby Stoop was in collision with a silver Audi Q5 travelling in the opposite direction.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old local man, was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he remains in a serious condition. The driver of the Audi, a 57-year-old woman, also from the Thirsk area was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses and in particular want to speak to a number of people who stopped at the scene of the crash but left before the police arrived.
